Description

A stunning red-flowering Dogwood, Cornus florida rubra produces a spectacular display of pink-red flower bracts surrounding yellow-green flower centres. In late spring, the flowers appear above mid-green, gently curled leaves, which turn deep purple-red in autumn. In late summer, the tree produces attractive red fruits, which are toxic to humans but much-loved by birds.

Cornus rubra has an upright, spreading habit and will reach 4 x 4 metres in 20 years. Plant this red Flowering Dogwood tree in a moist, well-drained site in a sunny or partially shaded position.

Also known as: Cornus florida f. rubra, Cornus Rubra, Red flowering dogwood

Planting Steps

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
