Popular Mature Collections
Over 200 different mature trees and shrubs up to 6 metres tall to add instant impact to your garden. It's easy to buy mature trees directly from our website or you can phone our experienced customer service team. Please note mature trees are measured by girth (the circumference of the stem taken 1 metre up from the soil level)....
Choosing Mature Trees
Mature trees make a wonderful impact on a garden, with the species you choose affecting the overall feel of the garden. Mature Flowering Cherry trees create breath-taking seasonal blossom displays, whilst established evergreens make an impact year-round. The beautiful bark of older Himalayan Birch trees is often fully developed by this stage and large Japanese Maple trees have established their majestic shape.
Mature and semi-mature trees are measured by their girth size (circumference of the stem measured 1m above soil level), rather than height or age. Any heights given are only a guide. Standard trees have a clear stem of approximately 1.8m-2.0 metres with a branched crown on top, whereas feathered trees have branches up the main stem. Multistem trees and bushes do not include a girth measurement, so please refer to the pot size and height.
Delivery of Mature Trees
Older trees require extra special care and knowledge to transport them. Our experienced team check them, carefully pack them and deliver them using our specialist haulage. There is a flat delivery charge for any number of mature trees, so if ordering several it does work out to be very economical.
Planting Mature Trees
These mature trees are all large enough to make an impact but can still be handled manually without equipment. We typically recommend two people to plant them as they are heavy and will need lifting into the planting hole. When digging the hole, it is advisable to measure the depth and compare it to the rootmass to check the tree will sit at the correct height once in the hole and avoid the need to lift it back out to make adjustments. Remember to order specialist large tree planting essentials to ensure your trees establish successfully in their new site.
Unless it is winter and the trees are dormant, give them a generous soaking of water once planted. Continue to do so as required, bearing in mind mature trees can soak up a large quantity of water. For further information, please view our Mature Tree Planting Guide and video.
