Why Do Some Trees Change Colour In Autumn?

As the days shorten, deciduous trees begin to wind down their summer food production, causing the green chlorophyll in their leaves to fade. This can reveal vibrant pigments that have been hidden beneath the surface such as golden yellows and warm oranges. Some trees even produce new pigments that create deep crimson and rich purples tones. The result is the stunning seasonal colour display we associate with autumn.
