Preparing Your Trees & Plants For Delivery

As living products, all our trees and plants receive individual care and attention by our expert nursery team. Ahead of despatch, our trees and plants are quality-checked, watered, carefully picked, prepared and packaged on-site. We’ll never send out a tree that we’re not entirely happy with!

Smaller trees and plants are packaged in sturdy boxes made from recycled cardboard and sent on a 24 hour service by specialist couriers so they can be delivered directly to you in the best condition possible. You will be sent a tracking link by the courier as soon as the plants are on their way.

Larger trees will not be packaged and will be hand-delivered by our own delivery team.

If you are ordering several shrubs or trees, we may ship them to you on a carefully wrapped pallet, keeping the cost down for you and helping us to reduce our carbon footprint. We do not require you to return the pallet to us.

When your tree has arrived, unpack it carefully and water well. We recommend planting as soon as you are able, as trees will eventually run out of nutrients if left in their production pots. If, however, you’re not able to plant right away, please make sure you keep it well watered in a sheltered space and safe from damage.

If you have ordered several trees or plants with different delivery dates, we may hold them for a little while until we are able to make just one delivery, which helps us reduce our carbon footprint. If the dates are too far apart and you wish to split your delivery, please contact us at sales@ornamental-trees.co.uk and we will do our best to schedule separate deliveries.

Delivery Costs

Standard Delivery
For 1-3 small shrubs we charge £10.00 and for young trees or 4+ small shrubs we charge £12.00. Order several trees or shrubs within a single order for the best value for money.

Pallet Delivery
Certain larger trees, such as mature Japanese maples, are too large for boxed delivery and will be better protected by being shipped on a pallet, with deliveries charged at £35.

Large Trees
Mature and pleached trees, or orders too large for a pallet, will be hand delivered, unpackaged, by our own delivery drivers. The delivery charge is calculated in the checkout process and varies by postcode rather than quantity and starts from £55.

Highlands & Islands
For the more remote parts of the Highlands and the Islands of the UK, and for certain tree sizes, we may not be able to deliver live plants as our couriers may not currently travel there. Deliveries to certain postcodes will start at £30, but some deliveries to the Highlands and the Islands may incur additional charges.

Unfortunately, we are not able to make delivery of live plants to Northern Ireland or any countries outside of the UK.

Delivery Times

Next Day Despatch
We will always try to get your plants to you as quickly as possible. For many of our trees and plants, if you order before 11pm today, we will despatch your order within 24 hours. We are constantly adding to our range of next day plants, and we do not add a surcharge for this service.

Standard Delivery
We have one of the widest range of trees in the UK, and for those plants which we cannot despatch next day we will normally despatch within 4 weeks. The despatch time for different products will be confirmed when products are added to your shopping basket

Pre-orders
We will only want to deliver your orders when they are perfect for planting! Depending on the season and how well the plants are growing, we will give our best estimates of the despatch dates for pre-orders. These dates may vary and by species and while we will always try to deliver within these timeframes if the expected despatch does change then we will notify you by email.

Special Orders
Orders containing pleached or mature trees (trees over 2.5m in height) are delivered within 3 weeks. They require specialist delivery and are grouped geographically. Any customers ordering pleached or mature trees will be contacted and notified of their delivery date.

If your trees are required by a specific date, please let us know as soon as possible; while we can’t offer any guarantees we will always do our best to accommodate you. Please note that orders are shipped once all the trees in the order are ready.

Collections

Collections are by appointment only at our West Yorkshire-based nursery. If you would like to place an order for collection, please get in touch before placing your order. You will not be charged a delivery cost for a collection and any delivery cost that has been applied will be refunded.

Guarantee

We’re confident that if you follow the plating guides we set out that your tree will grow and flourish for years to come. Planting and care tips can be found on each of our product pages.

We do understand that sometimes a tree can fail through no one’s fault. If we can ascertain that the tree has a problem and therefore failed, we do offer a 12-month guarantee.

Planting guidelines

Preparation

Pot-grown plants can be planted at any time of year, whereas bare roots need to be planted between November and March.
Clear weeds and grass within a metre of the planting hole.
Dig a hole as deep as the root mass and twice as wide.
To help your plant establish more effectively, sprinkle Rootgrow in the hole and on the roots.

Planting

Gently loosen the roots and place into the planting hole.
Ensure the top of the plant's compost is flush with the level of the surrounding soil and the graft union or collar of the tree is above ground level.
Mix 50% of the original soil with 50% compost.
Fill in the hole, firming the soil gently.

Last Steps

Water generously around the base of the plant.
If you are planting either a single stem tree or mature standard tree, we recommend adding a staking kit and rabbit guard.

The 12-month guarantee will remain valid if all guidelines are followed, including any specific planting instructions required for certain plants.

The following exclusions apply

· Bulbs and Dahlia Tubers

· Any item bought in an end of season sale

· Consumables

Adverse weather conditions can cause structural damage to trees or property. In this instance this guarantee would not be upheld. Ornamental Trees cannot be held responsible for damage caused under these circumstances.

Bareroot Trees

There is an increased risk of Bareroot Trees not establishing and therefore, if the planting guidelines have been followed, we do offer the following in the event of a failure

· A replacement like-for like potted tree. The customer to pay the difference in price

Please note it is vital that a Bareroot Tree is not planted in cold conditions when the ground is hard.

Damaged in Transit

From time to time our trees may get damaged in transit. If this does happen, please contact our customer service team so we can resolve the issue for you.
