Magnolia stellata Tree
Starry Magnolia

Description
Magnolia stellata may be small but it produces a large number of bright white, star-shaped flowers in early spring. Around March-April, silky buds open wide into gently-scented flowers up to 10cm across and containing up to 18 petals each. It is named Star Magnolia after these distinctive-shaped white flowers.
Slender, glossy green leaves emerge after flowering, occasionally gaining attractive bronze tints during summer.
Magnolia stellata is a compact Magnolia shrub growing to just 2 x 2.5 metres (height x spread) in 20 years although it can be carefully grown with a clear-stem. Performing well in both full sun or light shade, it is best suited to a sheltered position in well-draining soil.
Combining masses of white star-shaped blooms and a compact habit make Magnolia stellata an outstanding choice for small gardens, borders, patios and containers.
