Description

Pleached Evergreen Oak trees have intriguing spiny, dark-green, glossy foliage similar to that of a holly tree, hence the common name Holly oak (or Holm oak). Young green autumn acorns mature to a dark-red before falling and are popular with wildlife such as squirrels. The spring catkins are visited by bees and the evergreen canopy provides shelter to birds.

In this pleached form it is ideal for year-round screening and creating privacy. Quercus ilex will tolerate an exposed coastal or inland position, making pleached Ilex particularly good as a windbreak for coastal gardens (tolerant of salt-spray). Our pleached Evergreen Oak trees have been carefully trained over a number of years by leading experts to create beautiful screening trees, sometimes known as hedging in the sky or stilt hedging.

Our containerised Pleached trees are available year-round, unlike rootball forms. Please call our Sales and Service team on 01943 660870 to discuss requirements. Special requirements: 2-4 people required for planting.

AKA Evergreen oak, Holly oak, Holly-leaved oak, Holm oak

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
