Description

Unlike most camellias which are evergreen, Stewartia pseudocamellia is a deciduous tree with dark green leaves that turn attractive shades of orange and red in autumn. It reaches an approximate maximum height of 12 metres and a spread of 8 metres, maturing over 20 years. In mid to late summer, it produces striking white flowers with bright yellow stamens. The exfoliating bark adds year-round visual interest, making it a standout in any garden.

Stewartia pseudocamellia thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, acidic soil. It is a low-maintenance shrub making it a practical and elegant choice for gardens and parks.

AKA Deciduous Camellia

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
