Description

Magnolia Cameo is an attractive compact deciduous shrub which typically reaches a height of 3m and spread of 1.5m. It flowers in springtime on bare branches, and produces beautiful cup shaped flowers which are a purple-ish pink on the outside and pale white pink on their inside. The leaves emerge in spring and are a mid green colour, turning autumnal shades of yellow in autumn before falling.

This magnolia variety thrives in moist but well drained to well drained kinds of soil, and in positions with full sun to partial shade. It makes an ideal accent to gardens and borders.

Planting Steps

Aftercare Advice

Magnolia require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.

Magnolia trees and shrubs can be pruned into shape by removing branches that are growing in an awkward position, as well as any that are damaged. They should not be heavily pruned as this can send them into shock. If pruning to limit the overall size, stagger your pruning over a few years to alleviate the stress on your tree. Pruning for Magnolia should be carried out in mid-summer to early autumn. Avoid pruning in late winter to early spring.
