Description

Acer palmatum 'Jerre Schwartz' is an upright Japanese Maple ideal for adding elegance and seasonal colour to smaller gardens, patios, or as a feature in mixed borders. Growing to approximately 2.5 metres tall with a 1-metre spread, its compact form makes it an ideal choice for limited spaces.

The feathery, delicately lobed leaves of Japanese Maple 'Jerre Schwartz' emerge in spring with a yellowish-green hue, flushed with pink. They remain vibrant throughout summer before turning a striking red in autumn. In summer, it also produces ornamental red winged seed pods, adding further subtle interest.

Acer palmatum 'Jerre Schwartz' thrives in moist, well-drained soils and grows best in full sun to partial shade, making it an easy-care yet visually captivating addition to any sized garden.

Planting Steps

Aftercare Advice

Japanese Maples require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. If possible, use rain water instead of tap water as this is more acidic and better for foliage colour. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.

Their natural shape is normally the most attractive, so Japanese Maples rarely need pruning. Any pruning should be carried out with a less is more approach, only removing crossing, damaged or diseased branches. Pruning should be carried out in the dormant season (November to March) as Japanese Maples bleed during other times of the year, which can weaken the branches.
