Description

Often called a Snakebark or Père David's Maple, Acer davidii 'George Forrest' has striking striated bark that resembles the pattern on snakeskin. On young stems, the bark varies between purple, red and green with creamy white stripes. In maturity, the bark turns greenish brown with white stripes. The large leaves are dark-green on coral red stems in summer and in autumn turn fiery orange delivering a brilliant seasonal display.

Growing to 5 x 4 metres in 20 years, Acer 'George Forrest' forms a slightly spreading tree with arching branches and a loose attractive canopy. It is content in most soils with good drainage and sunny to partially shaded positions. Cold winds are best avoided.

This award winning Snake Bark Maple tree is ideal for adding year-round interest to smaller gardens.

Planting Steps

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
