Description

As its name suggests, Malus 'Jelly King' is one of the very best varieties for making crab apple jelly. The large colourful crab apples are a mixture of orange and pink so provide decorative value in autumn and winter if you decide not to use them for culinary purposes. In spring, a profusion of white flowers bloom alongside the emerging green foliage.

Malus 'Jelly King' is a small Crab Apple tree with a rounded shape and grows to 4 x 4 metres in 20 years. It is suitable for small gardens or growing in a large container. Since it has a relatively long flowering period and the flowers are popular with bees, 'Jelly King' can also be used as a pollinator for apple trees.

Jelly King' has large crab apples ideal for culinary use, so is sold with zero VAT.

Planting Steps

Aftercare Advice

Crab Apple trees require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.

You can harvest culinary Crab Apples in early autumn or leave them for birds to enjoy. The trees should be pruned in winter but do not require hard pruning. Avoid trimming the tips of branches. Simply remove any dead or damaged branches and shoots at the base of the tree i.e. suckers and water sprouts.
