Description

Garden Privet (Ligustrum ovalifolium) is a popular choice of semi-evergreen hedging, with attractive small, rich greem leaves and a dense form that lends itself to formal pruning. In July, creamy white flowers appear that are popular with bees and butterflies.

Once privet hedging reaches the desired height, it can be maintained at anywhere between 0.6 – 5 metres with regular trimming. Privet is a tough plant but can loose a few leaves in cold winters. It is suited to a sunny position in any reasonably well-draining soil.

Also known as Ligustrum ovalifolium hedge, Common privet

Planting Steps

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
