Description
A striking evergreen pleached tree, Photinia x fraseri 'Red Robin' has bright red new stems and leaves, which mature to a dark, glossy green. The fresh red growth appears in spring and again in autumn. In spring, clusters of small ivory-coloured flowers provide additional seasonal interest, with flowering more likely when grown in a sunny position.
Pleached Photinia trees create elegant, year-round screening and are sometimes referred to as “hedging in the sky” or “stilt hedging”. As a reasonably vigorous evergreen, Photinia ‘Red Robin’ forms an effective dense screen for privacy and responds well to regular clipping, which promotes colourful new growth. The clear stems lift the pleached head above ground level, helping to maintain light beneath the canopy.
