Description

One of our most popular dwarf Japanese Maples, Acer palmatum dissectum 'Ever Red' features colourful deeply dissected lacy leaves and an elegant cascading habit. Beginning crimson in spring, the feathery foliage deepens to burgundy throughout the summer months, before turning vibrant crimson-red in autumn.

This compact weeping Japanese Maple is slow-growing and reaches an eventual height and spread of approximately 1.2 x 1.2 metres, making it ideal for smaller gardens, courtyard spaces, borders and container planting. It is low maintenance and thrives in moist, well-drained soil. For the richest red leaf colour, position Acer palmatum 'Ever Red' in partial shade, as full sun may cause slight fading.

A stunning focal point throughout the seasons, 'Ever Red' Japanese Maple brings elegant form, texture and rich colour to even the smallest outdoor spaces.

AKA Acer palmatum 'Dissectum Nigrum', Acer palmatum 'Ever Red'

Planting Steps

Aftercare Advice

Japanese Maples require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. If possible, use rain water instead of tap water as this is more acidic and better for foliage colour. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.

Their natural shape is normally the most attractive, so Japanese Maples rarely need pruning. Any pruning should be carried out with a less is more approach, only removing crossing, damaged or diseased branches. Pruning should be carried out in the dormant season (November to March) as Japanese Maples bleed during other times of the year, which can weaken the branches.
