Description

Fiery red autumn foliage makes Acer palmatum 'Osakazuki' one of the finest and most sought-after Japanese Maple trees. Its large, seven-lobed leaves are fresh green throughout spring and summer before transforming into a breathtaking display of fiery crimson and scarlet red in autumn.

An award-winning Japanese Maple, Acer palmatum 'Osakazuki' is ideal for small gardens, patios and Japanese-inspired planting schemes, while still creating impressive seasonal impact in larger gardens. It has an attractive open branching habit and is relatively fast growing when young, eventually reaching an approximate height and spread of 4 x 3 metres over 20 years.

Japanese Maple 'Osakazuki' thrives in a slightly sheltered position with partial shade and moist, well-draining soil.

One of our best-selling Japanese Maple, 'Osakazuki' is favoured for its bold autumn colour and graceful form. We offer it in a range of sizes from quality young plants through to stunning large mature specimen trees.

Planting Steps

Aftercare Advice

Japanese Maples require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. If possible, use rain water instead of tap water as this is more acidic and better for foliage colour. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.

Their natural shape is normally the most attractive, so Japanese Maples rarely need pruning. Any pruning should be carried out with a less is more approach, only removing crossing, damaged or diseased branches. Pruning should be carried out in the dormant season (November to March) as Japanese Maples bleed during other times of the year, which can weaken the branches.
