Discover November Gardening Jobs you can't miss! 🍂

As the garden slowly becomes dormant, there's still plenty of tasks to do in the garden 🪏

Explore our 5 jobs for this November! 🪴

1. Raise containers onto feet to prevent waterlogging

In wet weather, raise pots off the ground onto plant pot 'feet'. This prevents plants from becoming waterlogged and improves drainage, protecting the plant and the decking/patio 🪴

2. Prune fruit bushes once dormant

November is the ideal time to prune fruit bushes, including blackcurrants, redcurrants, whitecurrants and gooseberries. Autumn pruning makes them less susceptible to damage and encourages stronger, more vigorous growth, leading to higher fruit production 🫐

3. Plant your trees, shrubs and tulip bulbs

November is a fantastic time to plant, just before winter frosts roll around. It gives time for plants and bulbs to establish their roots and the cooler temperatures also prevent the fungus responsible for tulip fire developing which can damage bulbs  🌷

4. Protect borderline hardy shrubs with mulch and straw

Borderline hardy plants need a bit of extra help during cooler temperatures. Trees and shrubs such as Agapanthus, Japanese Maples and dwarf Rhododendrons will benefit from an autumn mulch to lock in warmth and suppress weeds 🍁

5. It's time to feed the birds again under RSPB advice

Due to a highly contagious disease called trichomonosis, the RSPB encourages seasonal feeding from 1st November to 30th April. This is the ideal time to support birds by providing seeds, nuts, mealworms and fat balls so they can survive the colder months. The charity are also encouraging people to retire their flat feeders as this contributes to the spread of the virus. Aim to disinfect hanging feeders on a weekly basis to help our feathered friends 🪶
