These trees have been carefully selected because they are suitable for planting in pots, planters or containers. Potted trees are popular on patios, balconies and courtyards, where they can be appreciated up close. We offer nearly 100 varieties of tree that can be grown in a pot, so we recommend using the filters to further narrow your search.
Some trees ideal for growing in pots include; dwarf Flowering Cherry trees, small Japanese Maples, compact Conifers, weeping Crab Apple trees and Magnolia shrubs. Patios are ideal places for growing small trees in containers because they are so often sheltered and sunny spots where many trees do particularly well. Just make sure Japanese Maples aren't in strong sunlight that can scorch the delicate foliage.
When planting a tree into a pot or container, we recommend using one that is about twice the size of the root ball. Make sure the pot contains drainage holes in the base and if not, add your own. Potted trees depend on you for feeding and watering. Keep them well watered all year round and particularly in summer when their soil can dry out very quickly. We also recommend feeding with a general purpose fertiliser twice a year.
