Description

Heptacodium miconioides is an award-winning tree with many features! It has distinctive dark green, oval leaves with 3 veins clearly visible. In summer, many small, scented flowers make an appearance. The flowers are white with bright pink-red calyxes that form a lovely display.

The bark is a wonderful creamy colour. Thin sections of it curl over as they peel off dramatically. It is usually grown as a deciduous shrub, so this is a great opportunity to acquire a splendid example of it in a standard tree form.

Also known as Seven Son Flower Tree, Heptacodium miconioides is exceptionally cold hardy, preferring a sheltered position in full sun to partial shade. It will grow in any soil type, as long as it is well draining to moist but well-draining.

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
