Description
The bright white bark and slender form of Betula utilis jacquemontii 'Doorenbos' make it a popular choice for gardens. The trunk and branches peel to reveal the fresh white bark, which gives special winter interest. With much whiter bark than the native Silver Birch, Himalayan Birch 'Doorenbos' has the added advantage of the bark colour developing in a relatively young tree.
This white stemmed Himalayan Birch is an elegant tree with an open head, casting only a light dappled shade. Glossy, dark-green, oval foliage turns a cheery yellow in the autumn. In its single stem form, expect a height of 7 metres and spread of 3.5 metres in 20 years. Betula utilis jacquemontii 'Doorenbos' is a robust, medium-sized ornamental Birch tree that will tolerate virtually all soil types and conditions.
We also offer multi stem 'Doorenbos' in a range of sizes and.
Nigel's Nursery Notes: Betula utilis 'Doorenbos' and 'Snow Queen' are actually the same variety. 'Doorenbos' is the original Dutch name - named after Albert Doorenbos who spotted it in 1933.
