Description
Unlike most Juneberry trees, Amelanchier x grandiflora 'Robin Hill' has pink buds that open to pretty pale pink flowers in late March and April. The star-shaped flowers can fade to white and are joined by bronzed green young leaves. The oval leaves are finely serrated and turn darker green in summer, followed by magnificent shades of red and orange in autumn. Small purple-black berries are also produced in autumn, which can be eaten, although are often left as a treat for hungry birds.
Amelanchier x grandiflora 'Robin Hill' has a more upright habit than some Amelanchier and broadens a little with age to gain a height and spread of 4 x 3 metres in 20 years. This fantastic Amelanchier is hardy and tough, growing in most soils including damp sites. Also tolerant of pollution, it is little surprise that 'Robin Hill' has received the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
AKA Amelanchier Robin Hill, Amelanchier arborea 'Robin Hill', Juneberry Robin Hill, Serviceberry
