Description

Crataegus pinnatifida 'Big Ball' is a Thornless Chinese Hawthorn with unusually large fruits in autumn. The berries resemble crab apples and can be used to make jams and jellies, as well as providing food for hungry birds. It also features pretty white flowers in spring, which are popular with pollinators and warm autumn colour.

'Big Ball' is a compact tree, growing to a maximum height and spread of 4x4m, making it an ideal choice for small gardens. Plant in a sunny to partially shaded position, in well draining soil.

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
