Prunus 'Fragrant Cloud' - 'Shizuka' Tree

Flowering Cherry Trees

from From £49.99 (ex. VAT)
( £59.99 (ex. VAT) inc. VAT)

One of the best features of this flowering cherry tree is the rich scent that emerges from the large, white, semi-double flowers that appear in May and slowly fade to pink. A strong growing tree, Fragrant Cloud, also widely known by its Japanese name Prunus 'Shizuka', will grow to an estimated height and spread of 6 x 4 metres in 20 years, forming a medium sized ornamental tree.

Foliage develops from a bronze colour, turning to mid-green and then orange in the autumn. Tough and tolerant of pollution, this blossom tree will do well in any but wet soils or shallow, chalky conditions. A beautiful tree with striking features and a delightful fragrance.

Delivery Timescales

Most deliveries are made within a week of placing the order. All trees are carefully packed by our experienced team, with many despatched to our tried and tested couriers within 24 hours (please allow up to 10 days). These trees are sent on a 'no signature required' basis, so there's no need to be in. You can give instructions on where to leave them via the checkout or email us (sales@ornamental-trees.co.uk).

There is a slightly longer timescale on pleached and mature trees (trees over 2.5m in height) because we group orders together by geographic area for specialist delivery - we will contact these customers to notify them of the delivery date and whether the delivery driver needs help unloading the trees.

Gift trees and those required for arrival by a specific date can be accommodated with pleasure, although we accept no legal responsibility for late deliveries.

Our nursery is a busy despatch centre, so please make an appointment to collect or view trees.  For collections, despatch charges will be refunded.

Planting Advice For Prunus Fragrant Cloud - Shizuka

Pot grown 'Fragrant Cloud' Cherry trees can be planted at any time of the year and should be positioned where they can spread their roots. To prepare the site, remove all weeds and grass within a metre of your desired planting hole. Dig a square hole as deep as your root mass and approximately 1.5 sizes wide. To help your tree establish more effectively, we advise sprinkling root grow in the hole, especially if you have poor soil. Gently loosen the roots and place into the planting hole.

Using 50% of the original soil and 50% compost, fill in the hole and firm around gently. Make sure not to bank the soil up around the collar of the tree. We recommend using a stake and tie when planting to ensure your roots are well anchored and if your area is prone to rabbits, use a rabbit guard.

The tree planting guide has further information and videos.

After Care Advice For Prunus Fragrant Cloud - Shizuka

If you’re planting Cherry Blossom trees in spring or summer, water well and regularly for the first few months. If you’re planting in autumn, you may only need to water it a little. It is important to keep an eye on young trees and increase watering if there are extended periods of hot or dry weather. Once planted, keep the area free of competing weeds and grass for the first 3 years.

Pruning Advice For Prunus Fragrant Cloud - Shizuka

Although it is possible to simply leave your Flowering Cherry tree to its own devices, it can be encouraged by gentle pruning. If you prune your tree for the first few years it will create a more balanced branch framework. Prune after flowering i.e. after the petals have dropped but before the new shoot growth appears.

After two to three years, you will only need to remove any damaged or unwanted branches. However, the formative pruning that you have already carried out will have led to a healthier tree, less likely to need this.
