Description

Spiraea japonica 'Goldmound' is a compact, spreading deciduous shrub that typically grows to an approximate height of 1 metre with a slightly larger spread of up to 1.5 metres. This variety is renowned for its vibrant yellow foliage, which emerges golden in spring and matures to a greenish-yellow in summer. As the seasons progress, the leaves transition to attractive shades of red and yellow in autumn before they fall. In late spring, the shrub produces clusters of soft pink flowers that beautifully contrast with its foliage, attracting pollinators and adding a soft splash of colour to the garden.

Spiraea japonica 'Goldmound' thrives in well-drained soils and prefers a position in full sun to partial shade. This variety is relatively low-maintenance and is ideal for use in mixed borders, as a low hedge, or as a bright accent in garden beds. Its compact size and striking foliage make it a versatile choice for adding seasonal interest and a pop of colour to any garden setting.

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
