Description
Gleditsia Shademaster is a fast-growing, medium-sized shade tree growing attractive, bipinnate leaves. It is slightly weeping in form and the foliage, which turns a rich golden yellow in autumn, produces a light and airy canopy for a lovely dappled shade effect. An ideal solution for those seeking light shade without the dense foliage associated with many other shade trees. As Gleditsia Shademaster’s leaves are fairly small, minimal cleanup is required after they have dropped in the autumn. Small, inconspicuous flowers emerge in spring followed by brown legumes. This thornless variety of Honey Locust does not produce seed pods.
Graceful in habit, Gleditsia Shademaster is very popular as a street tree and is especially suited to urban areas and parks thanks to its tolerance to air pollution. It would also make an elegant specimen shade tree for a larger garden or lawn. Very hardy and low-maintenance and tolerant of a range of soil types. Gleditsia Shademaster is estimated to reach a height and spread of approx. 10 x 8 metres in 20 years.
AKA Honey Locust tree, Gleditsia triacanthos var. inermis Shademaster
