Description

Cornus kousa is a stunning, large shrub which is native to Japan and Korea. In early summer, the shrub blooms tight clusters of small white flowers, beautifully framed by four large, creamy-white bracts. This is complemented by oval green leaves, which turn a striking, reddish-purple in autumn, adding vibrancy to the garden later in the season. The plant produces strawberry-like pink fruit, which adds to its ornamental value.

Cournus Kousa will thrive in full sun to partial shade in a sheltered environment. It prefers well-drained soil, enriched with well-rotted compost. It has an ultimate height and spread of 8 meters in 20 years.

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
