Description

Cercis siliquastrum 'White Swan' is a dramatic and rarely seen Judas tree, so-called because of the snow-white colour of its flowers. A great alternative to the pink blooms normally associated with Cercis, White Swan’s flowers grow in clusters on bare branches in spring (a botanical phenomenon referred to as cauliflory) to provide an eye-catching contrast of light and dark. Charming, heart-shaped leaves, which are bronze when young and green in summer, make way for shades of golden yellow in autumn.

Cercis siliquastrum 'White Swan' prefers a full sun or partially shaded position and a moist, well-drained soil. This Cercis will grow to form an attractive rounded habit, and in 20 years you can expect a height and spread of approximately 4.5 x 4 metres.

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
