Description

Berberis Thunbergii 'Red Chief' is a deciduous, vigorous shrub with a spreading growth habit. It features narrow, deep purple leaves that grow from purple stems. In spring, it produces delicate pale yellow flowers with pink-tinged lobes. As autumn approaches, the leaves turn a striking scarlet red, followed by deep red berries that attract birds. 'Red Chief' is an easy-to-grow shrub, ideal for bringing vibrant color to flower beds while encouraging wildlife to visit the garden.

Berberis Thunbergii 'Red Chief' will thrive in full sun or partial shade in an exposed or sheltered environment. It prefers moist but well-drained soils and has an ultimate height and spread of 2.5 x 1.5 meters.

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
