Pleached Photinia × fraseri 'Red Robin' Tree

Evergreen Pleached Christmas Berry

from From £389.99 (ex. VAT)
( £467.99 (ex. VAT) inc. VAT)

Photinia × fraseri 'Red Robin' creates a striking pleached tree. New foliage and stems emerges bright red on 'Red Robin', with leaves turning a dark, glossy green as they mature. The bright red growth appears in spring and autumn, especially if encouraged by regular pruning. Clusters of ivory coloured flowers in spring add further interest.

Photinia × fraseri 'Red Robin' is a reasonably vigorous evergreen and in this pleached form it is ideal as interesting year-round screening and for creating privacy. Flowering is more common when it is grown in full sun and it is hardy but new growth is not frost resistant.

Our pleached Photinia trees have been carefully and expertly trained over a number of years to create beautiful screening trees. The grand looking trees produced by this method of training are sometimes known as hedging in the sky or stilt hedging. This pleached evergreen has an approximate overall width of 1.8m and height of 3.2m . If you can't find the size you're looking for, please give us a call on 01943 660870.

Delivery Timescales

All trees are carefully packed by our experienced team. Most deliveries are made within a week of placing the order, with many being despatched to our tried and tested couriers within 24 hours. To be on the safe side allow up to 10 working days for despatch. These trees are sent on a 'no signature required' basis, so there's no need to be in to receive your delivery. You can give instructions on where to leave it via the checkout or send us an email (sales@ornamental-trees.co.uk).

There is a slightly longer timescale on pleached and mature trees (trees over 2.5m in height) because we group orders together by geographic area for specialist delivery - we will contact these customers to notify them of the delivery date and whether the delivery driver needs help unloading the trees.

Gift trees and other trees required for arrival on a specific date can be accommodated with pleasure at no extra charge, although we accept no legal responsibility for late deliveries.

Our nursery is a busy despatch centre and therefore customers need to make an appointment to collect or view trees.  For collections, despatch charges will be refunded.

Planting Advice for Photinia × fraseri 'Red Robin' Trees

When planting Photinia trees, it is important to prepare the planting area well. Firstly, remove all weeds and grass within a metre of your desired planting hole then dig a hole as deep as your root mass and approximately 2x as wide. We recommend digging a square hole as this encourages the roots to grow straight as opposed to around inside the hole. To help your tree establish more effectively, we advise applying root grow (sprinkle in the hole for pot grown trees), especially if you have poor soil.

Using 50% of the original soil and 50% compost, fill in the hole and firm around gently. Make sure not to bank the soil up around the collar of the tree as this can cause problems.

Pruning Advice for Pleached Photinia × fraseri 'Red Robin' Trees

Formative pruning has already been carefully and expertly carried out on all our pleached trees. Going forwards, you will need to carry out pruning to maintain the shape and encourage the bright red new growth.

The bamboo frame that comes on the tree can be cut off when the pleached tree is mature enough.
