Eucalyptus pauciflora debeuzevillei Tree

Snow Gum Trees

from From £49.99 (ex. VAT)
( £59.99 (ex. VAT) inc. VAT)

This Eucalyptus variety is attractive for numerous reasons. Commonly known as a Snow Gum tree, it displays beautifully patterned, silvery white bark and large grey-green aromatic leaves that are accompanied by small, white dandelion type flowers in late spring/early summer. As well as its aesthetic features, Pauciflora Debeuzevillei’s low spreading habit and good resistance to cold weather (one of the hardiest of all Eucalyptus) has led it to be awarded with the RHS Award of Garden Merit.

At a young age, the foliage exhibits a mid-blue colour before turning grey-green as the leaves mature, becoming thicker, and lance shaped, growing to almost the size of the palm of your hand. The foliage lasts well through the colder months, as Eucalyptus trees continue to grow, very slowly, throughout winter.

Whilst this is a very hardy variety of Eucalyptus, it does prefer full sun and a moist well-drained soil, although it will grow in most other conditions. Eucalyptus trees grow best when their roots are undisturbed so it’s a good idea to plan the position of your tree carefully.

Delivery Timescales

All trees are carefully packed by our experienced team. Most deliveries are made within a week of placing the order, with many being despatched to our tried and tested couriers within 24 hours. To be on the safe side allow up to 10 working days for despatch. These trees are sent on a 'no signature required' basis, so there's no need to be in to receive your delivery. You can give instructions on where to leave it via the checkout or send us an email (sales@ornamental-trees.co.uk).

There is a slightly longer timescale on pleached and mature trees (trees over 2.5m in height) because we group orders together by geographic area for specialist delivery - we will contact these customers to notify them of the delivery date and whether the delivery driver needs help unloading the trees.

Gift trees and other trees required for arrival on a specific date can be accommodated with pleasure at no extra charge, although we accept no legal responsibility for late deliveries.

Our nursery is a busy despatch centre and therefore customers need to make an appointment to collect or view trees.  For collections, despatch charges will be refunded.

Planting Advice for Eucalyptus Pauciflora Debeuzevillei trees

When planting Eucalyptus trees, such as Eucalyptus Pauciflora Debeuzevillei, it is important to prepare the planting area well. Pot grown eucalyptus trees can be planted at any time of the year. You will need to carry out the following to prepare your planting site.

Firstly, remove all weeds and grass within a metre of your desired planting hole then dig a hole as deep as your root mass and approximately 2x as wide. We recommend digging a square hole as this encourages the roots to grow straight as opposed to around inside the hole. To help your tree establish more effectively, we advise applying root grow (sprinkle in the hole for pot grown trees), especially if you have poor soil. Gently loosen the roots and place into the planting hole.

If your soil is poor, mix 50% of the original soil with 50% high quality compost, fill in the hole and firm around gently. Make sure not to bank the soil up around the collar of the tree as this can cause problems. To see how to use a tree stake and tie, watch our informational how to videos.

Aftercare Advice for Snow Gum trees

If you’re planting in dry weather, water well and regularly for the first few months. The same goes for spring and summer planting. Make sure to keep an eye on your young tree and increase watering if there are extended periods of hot or dry weather. If you’re planting in autumn, you may only need to water your tree a little. We also stock a range of irrigation kits, suitable for a variety of planting schemes.

Once planted, it is important to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass for the first couple of growing seasons. Using a glyphosate based weed killer or installing mulch matting and bark chips will aid in this. Do not simply mow the grass around the area as this will only encourage it to grow more vigorously. If you know your area is prone to rabbits, we would advise using a rabbit guard.

Pruning Advice for Snow Gum tree

Eucalyptus trees require formative pruning in the first few years. This should be carried out between February and March. The key thing to remember when pruning a eucalyptus tree is to never cut the central leader stem.

During the first 3 years, prune as follows: remove the side branches from the bottom third of the main stem. Prune half of the length from the sideshoots on the middle third of the main stem. Only remove damaged or overcrowded branches from the top third of the stem.

After the first 3 years, maintain a clear trunk by pruning any side shoots.
