Early Spring Flowering Trees

It’s early spring and a number of our trees and shrubs are in full bloom. Of the cherry blossom trees, Prunus ‘Okame’, Prunus mume ‘Beni-chidori’ and Prunus ‘Pink Cascade’ are all awash with a mass of pink flowers. Prunus mume ‘Omoi-no-mama’ and Prunus ‘Marie Mallet’ are good choices of early white flowering varieties, sometimes displaying pink flushes. Acacia dealbata Gaulois Astier currently has bright yellow spherical flowerheads that are reminiscent of pompoms all over it. Cherry Blossom Season

Following a late start due to the weather, the cherry blossom season is now in full swing.  There’s so many beautiful blooms that it’s impossible to pick a favourite. For small garden, Prunus incisa ‘Mikinori’ is ideal and can even be grown in a container. For real show stoppers, look no further than Prunus ‘Kanzan’ or Prunus ‘Kiku-shidare-zakura’ with their glorious pink double flowers. For an unusual choice, Prunus ‘Pandora’ has beautiful flowers that contain multiple hues of pink.

Rich Colours of Autumn

The seasons are changing and Autumn has officially begun. The bright colours of summer are fading and making way for the rich coloured foliage and berries of Autumn. Maple trees are well known for their Autumn foliage, with Acer palmatum ‘Osakazuki’ and Acer rubrum ‘Sun Valley’ being particularly fine examples. Beautiful Blooms of ‘Beni chidori’

Japanese cherry and Japanese apricot trees are starting to come into bloom now that it’s spring. Prunus mume ‘Beni chidori’ is one of the first to come into flower and the glorious blooms of vivid pink flowers sitting on bare stems can be seen on full display right now.
