Acer palmatum dissectum 'Emerald Lace' Tree

Japanese Maple Trees

from From £29.99 (ex. VAT)
( £35.99 (ex. VAT) inc. VAT)

The deeply dissected foliage of Acer Palmatum Emerald Lace bursts into life in spring in a bright shade of lime green. As summer approaches, the leaves become edged with red for a striking contrast. Finally, in autumn the foliage takes on a red-orange hue before falling to the ground. With such vibrant seasonal interest, Japanese Maple Emerald Lace is the perfect small garden tree. The softly rounded crown is made up of elegantly arching branches and moves gracefully in the breeze.

This cut-leaved Japanese Maple has a final height of 3 x 2 metres and a compact habit. As long as it is watered and fed generously, it will grow well in a large container, making a wonderful patio tree. When planting Acer Emerald Lace in the ground, choose a moist but well-drained sheltered site in full sun to partial shade.

We have a wonderful mature specimen tree available in this species of Acer tree - This tree is available as a pillar form (pruned to a fairly narrow bush shape), with a height of approx. 140/160cm or even a bit taller. We also have a semi-mature tree grown on a single stem of 90cm with an overall height of 120-150cm.

Delivery Timescales

All trees are carefully packed by our experienced team. Most deliveries are made within a week of placing the order, with many being despatched to our tried and tested couriers within 24 hours. To be on the safe side allow up to 10 working days for despatch. These trees are sent on a 'no signature required' basis, so there's no need to be in to receive your delivery. You can give instructions on where to leave it via the checkout or send us an email (sales@ornamental-trees.co.uk).

There is a slightly longer timescale on pleached and mature trees (trees over 2.5m in height) because we group orders together by geographic area for specialist delivery - we will contact these customers to notify them of the delivery date and whether the delivery driver needs help unloading the trees.

Gift trees and other trees required for arrival on a specific date can be accommodated with pleasure at no extra charge, although we accept no legal responsibility for late deliveries.

Our nursery is a busy despatch centre and therefore customers need to make an appointment to collect or view trees.  For collections, despatch charges will be refunded.

Planting Advice for Acer Palmatum Dissectum Emerald Lace Trees

When planting Japanese Maple trees, such as Acer Palmatum Dissectum Emerald Lace, it is important to prepare the planting area well. Pot grown acer trees can be planted at any time of the year. You will need to carry out the following to prepare your planting site.

Firstly, remove all weeds and grass within a metre of your desired planting hole then dig a hole as deep as your root mass and approximately 2x as wide. We recommend digging a square hole as this encourages the roots to grow straight as opposed to around inside the hole. To help your tree establish more effectively, we advise applying root grow (sprinkle in the hole for pot grown trees), especially if you have poor soil.

Using 50% of the original soil and 50% compost, fill in the hole and firm around gently. Make sure not to bank the soil up around the collar of the tree as this can cause problems. When planting Japanese maple trees, you should use ericaceous compost when possible as this encourages vibrant foliage colour. Aftercare Advice for Acer Palmatum Dissectum Emerald Lace Trees

If you’re planting in dry weather, water well and regularly for the first few months. The same goes for spring and summer planting. Make sure to keep an eye on your young tree and increase watering if there are extended periods of hot or dry weather. If you’re planting in autumn, you may only need to water your tree a little. If there is snow fall, gently brush the snow from the branches to ensure it does not weigh down the framework and cause damage. If possible, use rain water instead of tap water as this is more acidic and better for foliage colour. We also stock a range of irrigation kits, suitable for a variety of planting schemes.

Once planted, it is important to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass for the first couple of growing seasons. Using a glyphosate based weed killer or installing mulch matting and bark chips will aid in this. Do not simply mow the grass around the area as this will only encourage it to grow more vigorously. If you know your area is prone to rabbits, we would advise using a rabbit guard.

Pruning Advice for Japanese Maple Emerald Lace trees

Pruning should be carried out in the dormant season, from November to March. Japanese Maple trees bleed during other times of the year so pruning can weaken the branches. However, Japanese Maple trees very rarely need pruning. The natural shape is normally the most attractive and pruning should be carried out with a less is more approach. Only remove, crossing, damaged or diseased branches.
