  • Common name: Common mountain ash tree
  • Height and spread in 20 years: 6 x 4 meters
  • Seasons of interest: Spring, Autumn

This small, native tree has mid green, pinnate foliage with a serrated edge and develops good red autumn colours. The white flowers are carried on corymbs in April-May and are attractive to bees. Attractive, orange-red berries hang in bundles in the autumn and are of great interest to many birds but can also be used in jellies. The common mountain ash will grow in many difficult situations including polluted and exposed areas, it is most at home in acid soil but will do well in others, such as alkaline soil. Growing to 6 x 4 meters in 20 years this rounded tree is legend to keep the witches at bay! A very attractive small tree with lots of nice features and a wildlife magnet.
