Common name: Turkish hazel tree

This large deciduous tree has oval, dark/mid green foliage with a toothed or serrated edge. The Turkish Hazel will grow to 5 x 3 meters in 20 years in a conical, upright shape. In the spring long yellow catkins appear, which are popular with wildlife. Following these catkins are the edible hazelnuts of Corylus colurna. This hardy tree will tolerate most positions as long as the soil is moist but well-drained and there is at least partial sun. In the autumn the lush green leaves turn striking yellow before falling. The branches of this tree, also known as the Constantinople hazel, seem to sweep upwards adding to its striking architectural interest. The bark becomes corky with age and can sometimes peel. It's certainly one for wildlife, especially squirrels.

This deciduous shrub is popular for its racemes of hanging flowers. The creamy yellow bell shaped flowers hang in long racemes of up to 10 inches, usually the flowers will be present from February to April making a lovely statement against dull backdrops. The foliage is mid green turning orange and red in the autumn. This shrub will grow to 2.5 x 3 meters in 20 years in a slightly spreading form that seems somewhat oriental. Stachyurus praecox requires a well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade and needs to be planted out of cold winds in a sheltered position. This Spiketail Shrub is unusual and not often seen in the UK so it makes an interesting addition to the landscape.

This beautiful climbing hydrangea will grow to 12 x 4 meters in 20 years with no pruning and makes a fantastic statement when grown against a wall, trellis or fence. The soil required should be moist but well-drained and the position in full sun or partial shade, exposure will be tolerated. The foliage is glossy and mid-green turning yellow in the autumn. In May through to July the most beautiful lace-cap white flowers are born in abundance. The heads of these beautiful flowers can be up to 10 inches across and are popular with wildlife such as bees. Hydrangea petiolaris is self-clinging and so doesn't require any support. The perfect cover for a North facing wall.

Something a little bit different Apple Ellisons Orange produces large fruits that are shiny and bright red. The flesh is juicy and when eaten straight from the tree somewhat cox like. Given a few days the Apple Ellisons Orange develops an aniseed like flavour. This liquorish undertone to the aromatic cox flavours is truly delicious. Apple Ellisons Orange is from Lincoln in 1904 and is suited to less favourable positions and Northern areas. Expect good crops in September and ensure a pollinator in group A, B or C is located within a half mile radius.

Available as apple espalier trees, cordon trees, u cordon trees and step over trees depending on stock.

One of our absolute favourite crab apples, this tree boasts white flowers opening from pink buds in April against a foil of mid-green leaves which turn yellow/bronze in the autumn. Very attractive crab apples are produced which are flushed yellow, orange and red. These lovely crabs can be used for culinary purposes or left on the tree where they will adorn the branches until after Christmas when it’s likely that hungry birds will snaffle them. 'Evereste' is extremely popular with wildlife especially the bees who gather its pollen and nectar. Pollution tolerant, crab apples are suited to urban areas. Most positions will do as long as the soil is moist but well drained.

Brilliant displays of vibrant red crab apples in the autumn. Suited for culinary use these crabs are great in jellies or just as useful left on the tree for a winter display that the wildlife can enjoy. A lovely lime tree with large dark-green heart shaped foliage that turns golden yellow in the autumn. Small creamy white flowers are produced in July that have a strong scent, very popular with bees. This lime is the best for pleaching purposes and takes well to pollarding. When grown as a specimen tree its head is rounded with arching branches and it will reach 8 x 4 meters in 20 years. Suited to most moist but well-drained soils in full or part sun this tree will tolerate some exposure.

A lovely tree with many similarity to the native small leaved lime; foliage is dark-green and heart shaped with buttery yellow autumn colour and small ivory white flowers in July that are highly fragrant and popular with bees. ‘Greenspire’ is a slightly neater form reaching 10 x 5 meters in 20 years. It’s head is still rounded in form but with more symmetry and a stronger leader. This tree will grow well in any moist but well-drained soil in full or partial sun, some exposure will be tolerated. An ideal choice for avenue planting or use as an attractive single specimen.

A lovely, weeping, mound forming tree this ornamental pear boasts beautiful grey-green, narrow willow-like foliage with silvery-white undersides, the effect is a silvery-blue-grey canopy. Foliage turns bronzed green in the autumn before falling and inedible brown/green fruits are also produced.
